La Chiesa di San Giuseppe è una delle costruzioni più significative di Valguarnera, non solo per il suo valore architettonico e spirituale, ma anche per la storia che ne ha accompagnato la realizzazione. La chiesa fu edificata grazie alla generosità del Commendatore Agostino Serra, che donò il terreno dove sorse l’edificio religioso. La prima pietra fu benedetta dal Vescovo Mons. Sturzo nel 1911, segnando l’inizio dei lavori che portarono alla sua costruzione.

Un aspetto particolarmente interessante della storia di questa chiesa è il contributo delle famiglie emigrate. Durante i primi decenni del XX secolo, molti valguarneresi partirono per cercare fortuna negli Stati Uniti, ma non dimenticarono la loro terra d’origine. Le remittances, ovvero i soldi inviati dalle famiglie emigranti, furono una fonte fondamentale di finanziamento per la realizzazione della chiesa. Questi fondi furono utilizzati per sostenere la costruzione e completare l’opera, simbolizzando il forte legame tra la comunità di Valguarnera e i suoi emigranti.

Nel 1921, la chiesa fu inaugurata con la benedizione della prima sezione da parte del parroco Magno. Un momento particolarmente significativo fu nel 1922, quando fu portata in processione la statua in bronzo di San Giuseppe, opera dello scultore napoletano Pellegrino Giuseppe, un dono di D. Peppino Raimondi. La statua divenne un simbolo di devozione e identità per la comunità locale.

Nel 1929, la chiesa fu elevata al grado di parrocchia, e nel 1954 fu consacrata dal Vescovo Mons. Catarella. La chiesa di San Giuseppe divenne anche il fulcro delle celebrazioni della festa di San Giuseppe, trasferita dalla Chiesa Madre, e continua a essere un’importante occasione di ritrovo spirituale e culturale per la comunità.

A particularly interesting aspect of the history of this church is the contribution of emigrant families. During the early decades of the 20th century, many people from Valguarnera left to seek their fortune in the United States but did not forget their hometown. The remittances, or money sent by emigrant families, were a crucial source of funding for the construction of the church. These funds were used to support the building and complete the work, symbolizing the strong bond between the Valguarnera community and its emigrants.
In 1921, the church was inaugurated with the blessing of the first section by the parish priest Magno. A particularly significant moment occurred in 1922 when the bronze statue of Saint Joseph, created by the Neapolitan sculptor Pellegrino Giuseppe, was carried in procession, as a gift from D. Peppino Raimondi. The statue became a symbol of devotion and identity for the local community.
In 1929, the church was elevated to parish status, and in 1954, it was consecrated by Bishop Mons. Catarella. The Church of San Giuseppe also became the focal point for the celebrations of Saint Joseph’s feast, which had been moved from the Mother Church, and continues to be an important occasion for spiritual and cultural gathering in the community.
