La Chiesa di San Francesco ha una storia affascinante che affonda le radici nel passato medievale di Valguarnera. Originariamente dedicata a Santa Croce, la chiesa conserva ancora oggi alcune tracce della sua antica struttura nella muratura laterale, segno di un’evoluzione architettonica che ha attraversato secoli di storia. La trasformazione e l’ampliamento dell’edificio risalgono al 1850, quando la chiesa subì ingenti danni e fu successivamente ricostruita grazie all’intervento del sacerdote Giuseppe Lomonaco. Quest’opera di ristrutturazione portò alla nascita dell’attuale struttura, che fu consacrata nel 1896 e presa definitivamente il nome di San Francesco di Paola.
Un elemento particolarmente significativo della chiesa è nel suo campanile, che ospita alcune delle campane più antiche di Valguarnera. Queste campane risalgono ai principi di Valguarnera e rappresentano un legame profondo con la storia del paese. Le campane, che sono state restaurate e mantenute nel tempo, suonano ancora oggi per segnare le ore e le festività religiose, testimoniando il passaggio del tempo e la continuità della tradizione.
